The Zurich Classic of New Orleans is underway at TPC Louisiana. Before teeing off in his fourth straight appearance with brother Alex, Fitzpatrick addressed a tag that's stuck to him.

The Englishman revealed what he feels about his 'overlooked' tag compared to the likes of Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler.

"I think all relative. You are always going to have guys in and around form, in and around the majors. You know, realistically, I haven't... since winning the U.S. Open, I haven't really shown that," Fitzpatrick said during the Wednesday press conference.

That statement came in response to whether he felt the need to prove anything. "So it all comes to with, I guess, the form you're in and people's talking points and history, I guess," added the 2026 RBC Heritage champion.

According to Matt, his performance has been inconsistent since he won a major tournament in 2022. However, Alex Fitzpatrick noted that while the top-ranked players will always be perennial favorites, Matt's dedication has earned him all his victories.

Matt seems to have been able to cope with the lack of wide publicity despite his recent success and the rise in his ranking list as he approaches another big season.

He observed that, despite knowing he will be one of the favorites in the upcoming PGA Championship, he feels much better about the lack of media attention surrounding him.

"It doesn't really bother me either way. It's great to have the recognition, but also, happy to fly under the radar too. I'm also always happy to be flying under the radar. It doesn't bother me at all," Matt said.

Right now, Fitzpatrick is focused on winning the Zurich Classic rather than gaining popularity among audiences. After all, winning in New Orleans would grant his brother Alex a two-year PGA Tour exemption.
