Matt Fitzpatrick has won the 2026 Valspar Championship, marking his return from a troublesome period of high uncertainty in his career. The Englishman has faith as he has silenced all doubts from the prolonged winless streak.
This emotional turnaround comes exactly one year after Fitzpatrick felt his elite game had vanished during a miserable 2025 Florida Swing.
After birdieing the 18th to win the championship, he said, "It is a frustrating game, but we keep coming back because for moments like on the last today." He honestly admitted that the journey back to the top is "not easy."
During the post-tournament press conference, the winner of the 2022 U.S. Open shared that he was ranked 70th at this time last year and had back-to-back missed cuts. While hitting the cut lines at Augusta and Valero, he says he felt the weight of the uncertainty.

"I didn't really know what was going to happen. It's hard," Fitzpatrick said when talking about that dark time in his career. The winless drought since his 2023 victory at Harbour Town made continued success feel distant.
This title at Valspar is his 3rd career win on the PGA Tour, adding to his 2022 U.S. Open and 2023 RBC Heritage, bringing his total to 3.
Chasing the Standard of Luke Donald
Winning at Innisbrook is particularly meaningful for Fitzpatrick as he is now following the Northwestern graduate and Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald. Donald is known for having a dazzling career and multiple high finishes at the Valspar Championship.
"I would definitely take the career that Luke's had, it's certainly a stellar one," Fitzpatrick stated. He particularly admires Donald's world-class short game and putting.
He felt the bond with his captain as a quiet source of inspiration during the long, grueling days in Palm Harbor.
"I think outwardly I probably felt like it was getting away from me, but inwardly I didn't necessarily feel like it was getting away from me," added Matt Fitzpatrick.
Augusta National is next on Fitzpatrick's agenda. With restored confidence, the ultimate lingering question is whether this momentum can finally earn him a Green Jacket.
