Matt Fitzpatrick Shares True Feelings About Facing Brother Alex in Contention at PGA Championship

Matt Fitzpatrick enters the 108th PGA Championship at Aronimink as a major favorite following a historic start to his 2026 season. In addition, the potential face-off between him and his brother, Alex, on Sunday adds an intriguing family twist to the competition in Pennsylvania.

The brothers are both enjoying the best form of their careers right now. Matt has already won the Valspar Championship and RBC Heritage this year, while he and Alex also teamed up to win the Zurich Classic. Alex has also put together strong performances at Doral and Quail Hollow.

During his pre-tournament press conference, Matt was asked how the sibling dynamic would shift if they were both in the hunt for the Wanamaker Trophy. Addressing the potential for a head-to-head battle, Matt admitted, "I would imagine it's going to be a weird feeling when that time does come."

This reflection follows a period where the brothers have rarely had time to celebrate their individual successes together. Matt noted that their hectic travel schedules have kept them from truly reflecting, stating, "We've honestly not had much chance to kind of sit down and take it all in."

Even though the brothers are sharing a house this week, Matt said his preparation routine has stayed the same ahead of the major.

He also praised Alex’s mentality after being impressed by his final-round performance in North Carolina last week.

A New Chapter for the Fitzpatrick Brothers

Matt admitted that, unlike him, Alex does not rely heavily on numbers or technical analysis during tournaments.

He noted that Alex relies more on intuition, stating, "He's not really numbers orientated, and he's got his own feelings and thoughts."

The dynamic between the two has shifted as Alex continues to follow up his Zurich win with brilliant performances at Doral and Charlotte. Matt is now embracing a new identity in the public eye as his brother's stardom continues to rise.

Matt is incredibly proud of the position they have reached together and enjoys the rare privilege of discussing their mutual success. He concluded with a smile, "I'm probably known as Alex's brother now, as opposed to him being Matt's brother."

The focus shifts to the intimidating bunkers and hard greens at Aronimink, where the unresolved issue of playing against each other in the final round could await the Fitzpatrick brothers.
