Coming off a second-place finish at THE PLAYERS, Matt Fitzpatrick arrived at the Valspar Championship with high standards.
When asked about his Ryder Cup partner Viktor Hovland's relentless practice routine, Fitzpatrick admitted they share the same tireless mentality.
While speaking with the press, he said, "I don't really like to take too many breaks, just because I feel like you lose the feeling of what you might have."
The Englishman mentioned how he had originally intended to spend Monday on the course practicing his chipping and putting. Unfortunately, he had to cancel as the weather in Florida looked unsettled.

Hovland himself confirmed this relentless approach during his own media session, stating, "It is hard for me to take time off and relax when I do not feel like I am in a state where I feel like I deserve to take one."
Fitzpatrick is still determined to keep going this week, even if he feels sluggish. He recognizes that this is a result of the physical demands of the recent contests he took part in. He was lucky to have an afternoon tee time, which he noted gives him time to recuperate before going out to play.
A Respect for Sportsmanship and Precision
His respect for his rivals equally matches Fitzpatrick's work ethic. After competing for the PLAYERS title, he showed appreciation to Cameron Young for his class and sportsmanship.
Fitzpatrick stated, "I have got a lot of respect for Cam for not just his play, but just as a person as well." He stated that he and Young got to know each other well during their time in TGL over the past two seasons.
His parents taught him to show respect for the game and for his competitors. He was taught to be courteous and respectful, win or lose.
The 2022 U.S.Open champion remembered his father hurrying to shake Will Zalatoris's hand after the last putt. This instance of sportsmanship is a prime example of the values his parents instilled in him.
