Swedish professional golfer Mikael Lindberg made a significant step in his career Sunday when he triumphed in very challenging weather conditions to become the DP World Tour champion at the Turkish Airlines Open.

At age 33, the golfer has achieved the dual feat of winning the Turkish Airlines Open tournament, which qualifies him for the upcoming PGA Championship event held at Aronimink Golf Club.

"This is a dream come true, I've been dreaming about this for so many years," Lindberg stated after finishing at 10-under par following a tiring week in Turkey.

Before the breakthrough, Lindberg built most of his career on the Challenge Tour, delivering consistent performance, however, without a win. This victory marked a significant jump in his professional standing.

As per Sky Sports, Mikael Lindberg led all four rounds at the National Golf Club and, despite heavy rain in Antalya, closed with a 69 to finish two shots clear, later admitting the pressure was almost unbearable as he felt nervous throughout the week.

"My feelings on this last hole, I almost felt dizzy, and I almost felt I wanted to throw up," the champion confessed regarding the intense final moments.

Overcoming the Elements in Belek

Lindberg claimed the championship at the National Golf Club amid rain that proved a serious challenge for the new champion among a group of accomplished European players.

"The weather on the front nine was actually a lot better than I expected, so I felt like I took advantage of that a little bit," said Lindberg.

However, from the ninth hole, conditions became increasingly strenuous for Lindberg, who recalled that this part of the course was especially tough due to worsening weather and mounting pressure from the competition.

In the end, Lindberg outplayed Daniel Rodrigues from Portugal and Guido Migliozzi from Italy, who posted scores of eight-under to finish just two shots behind Lindberg's lead.

Among the other golfers who tried to catch up with Lindberg throughout the tournament were Scotland's Ewen Ferguson and Denmark's Jacob Skov Olesen, but the new champion was too consistent to give way to his opponents under any conditions.

With this win, Lindberg has secured his inclusion in the exclusive tournament, slated for May 14 to 17 at Aronimink Golf Club, for the upcoming major event of the season.

Lindberg's well-deserved success in Turkey is sure to mark a turning point in his career, proving he can compete and win on the world stage.
