Charley Hull is dealing with multiple injuries coming into the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions. But how exactly is she managing it all as the USA faces a cold wave?
During the presser at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club, Hull revealed that she ensures a proper warmup during the cold weather and maintains constant mobility.
“Just my lower right back,” Hull confessed. “My hip as well. But apart from that, I'm pretty good. Don't get much pain in my ankle... Just make sure I keep moving. You see me switching out there, you know why.”
Hull has complained about recurrent tightness and strain in her lower back. She hurt it last year after moving a box that apparently limited her gym work. A fall in a parking lot damaged a ligament in her ankle. And swinging in the cold without a proper warmup certainly puts unnecessary strain on the hip.

In the cold weather, muscles, tendons, and joints get stiffer, reducing flexibility and increasing discomfort, especially in the previously injured parts. Ultimately, it affects swing mechanics. And if the muscles are sore, the intensity is increased with the cold.
So, does that mean Charley Hull doesn’t like to play in the cold weather?
Charley Hull Gets Honest About Swinging in the Cold
“I love it,” Hull revealed her surprising stance on playing in the cold. She claimed to like the mental toughness of the act. Hull enjoys being outdoors and doesn’t really let the lower temperatures bother her too much. But to save herself from the cold, she has to put on a thick layer of garments. And that could limit her range of motion.
Weighing in on winterwear, she said, “That's the hard thing. Like I don't like playing with a lot of layers on but I have to have small layers. So I wear like an under like thermal, couple thermals, got thermal trousers on, and then I'll have a jacket and probably another thin layer underneath. That's about it, really.”
Despite physical challenges, she embraces cold conditions and treats them as advantages. But do you think it’s a healthy practice?
