November 28, 2025, marked a curious phase for the golf community that actively followed Nelly Korda on Instagram. It was the date when she released a cascade of pictures on the social media platform and announced her engagement to Casey Gunderson. Yet, that came as a surprise.

During the pre-tournament press conference ahead of the 2025 Grant Thornton Invitational on December 10, 2025, a moderator asked Korda about her engagement pictures and the reason for the timing of her post. Now, it was high time for the world #2 golfer to address the talk behind these photographs. After all, it was a reality check for many who believed she was dating the Chicago Blackhawks star, Andreas Athanasiou.

The speculations materialized when visuals of the NHL star together with Korda emerged on social media back in 2019. Two years later, he was even seen caddying for her. But the golfer’s engagement pictures revealed the real story. 

Nelly Korda took the moment to thank the photographer, Kasey Powell, and said, “It was such an amazing experience, it was so much fun. I know that I'm a very private person, so I just thought that it was a fun way to kind of share the news, for the fans to see the next step kind of in my personal life.”

But does she have a favorite among the carousel of images? When the moderator asked about it, Korda confessed, “I have so many. I think the water shots are super cool. I don't know, there's just so many to really pick a favorite. There's definitely going to be a big collage on the wall one day, or soon.”

Her caption, “In this life… & the next 💍,” served as her first public confirmation of the engagement, ending all speculation and surprising fans who had unknowingly built a narrative around the wrong partner. But it also brought Casey Gunderson into the spotlight. 

Who is Nelly Korda’s fiancé, Casey Gunderson?

Unlike Korda, Gunderson has built a stable career away from sports. He graduated from Bryant University and entered the business side of civil engineering. He joined Bisnow and then moved to Florida Engineering, LLC. Having spent about a decade at the firm, Korda’s fiancée has now become the Vice President and helps oversee commercial and residential projects across more than 20 states. 

Although he’s not a professional athlete, Gunderson’s early life included a strong sports foundation. He competed at the IMG Academy as a wide receiver, posting an 8–2 record and earning notable state and national rankings with the IMG Academy Varsity Football squad. At Bryant University, football became second to academics for him. The low-profile yet accomplished figure now standing beside one of golf’s brightest stars.
