LIV Golf appears to be in trouble midway through the 2026 season due to financial issues, as funding from the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund is set to stop after this season, leaving top players in a tough spot.
Despite rumors about LIV Golf players returning to the PGA Tour, Thomas Pieters has been clear about his stance. The Belgian golfer does not plan to return regardless of LIV Golf's future.
"I'm definitely never going back to the PGA Tour. I've never liked that life," Pieters shared in a recent FOX News report. He admitted that he had never enjoyed being on the American tour.
Pieters joined the LIV Golf circuit in 2023, entering the league with six victories on the DP World Tour on his resume. He has continually emphasized that the relaxed LIV schedule carries more weight than the grueling weekly golf routine.
In an interview on the "Dan on Golf" show, Pieters admitted that players receive official information from LIV Golf shortly before it is announced publicly. "I think whatever comes out officially from LIV is what we're getting half a day before."
A Different Path to Redemption
Uncertainty around LIV’s future has made some players rethink their plans. Things changed a lot after Brooks Koepka returned to the PGA Tour in January 2026.
Koepka’s comeback required negotiating a complicated penalty system, setting a strict standard for any LIV player who wishes to return. This sets a strong example as players weigh their options amid the financial crisis.
While Patrick Reed is set to return to the tour as a non-member starting in August 2026, Pieters seems more interested in enjoying the benefits of his decision. He is now focused on the final seven tournaments of the season.
"I’m not too fussed about it at this point because I feel like I still have a duty to focus on these next six, seven tournaments," explained Pieters to Dan Rappaport.
Pieters revealed that he may switch to the DP World Tour if the league ceases operations. He also conceded that his approach involves taking full advantage of the increased financial benefits while they are still available.
