Just ahead of the Sudi PIF pulling funding for LIV Golf beyond 2026, the league lost one of its founders. Yasir Al-Rumayyan, who founded the league with Greg Norman, stepped down as chairman, but the league didn't waste time announcing its new leadership.

On April 30, following the Saudi PIF's decision to stop funding the league in 2027, the league announced the formation of an Independent Directors Committee.

"LIV Golf has built something truly differentiated – a global league with passionate fans, world-class talent, and demonstrated commercial momentum," said Gene Davis, the  Chairman of  the  Independent  Directors  Committee.

However, he won't be the only one leading the new committee. Jon Zinman will lead the board alongside Dr. Davis.

The duo, " working in lockstep with management, are focused on institutionalizing the league and evaluating the range of strategic  opportunities," read the official press release.

While the league has reported 100% year-over-year revenue growth, it wasn't enough to keep the Saudi PIF on board.

Gene Davis commented, "The executive leadership team, along with Jon and I, see a clear opportunity to help the league formalize its structure, attract and secure long-term capital, and position the business for growth."

LIV Golf is inviting new investors

In preparation for its upcoming season, the league is focusing on becoming financially independent while adopting an organizational model to secure varied private investment from around the world.

"LIV Golf is now leveraging this momentum to engage in constructive, forward-looking discussions with prospective global investors," the league stated in its press release.

They also assured fans that despite their original investors pulling their funding, "commitment to world-class golf remains unchanged as this process unfolds."

Now the question is which global partners will invest in the league after the 2026 season ends.
