New LIV Golf Team Captain Breaks Silence Days After Predecessor Steps Down

Along with Thomas Detry and Elvis Smylie, LIV Golf has added Byeong Hun An [Ben An] to its roster for 2026. And An is the new captain of the Korean Golf Club (previously Iron Heads GC), replacing the former captain, Kevin Na.
Now, An has broken his silence with an X post.
Announcing his move to LIV Golf, An stated, "I have always been passionate about supporting junior golfers and the next generation of players. While this is just the beginning, I want to help these athletes realize their dreams on the world stage."
"Leading the Korean Golf Club is the perfect opportunity to achieve that goal."
Moreover, An had a personal reason for entering LIV Golf.
“Joining LIV Golf is a defining move for my future,” the 34-year-old said. “I see a great opportunity to grow my career as captain of Korean Golf Club: To compete at the highest level, embrace a dynamic team environment, and help shape this new era of the sport.”
But according to Scott O’Neil, the CEO of LIV Golf, An’s presence reflects something more important.
CEO Reveals How Byeong Hun Is a Perfect Fit for LIV Golf
“The arrival of Ben underscores our long-term commitment to - and deep belief in - the Korean market and the important role it plays in shaping the future of global golf," said the LIV Golf CEO.
"Ben represents a generation of elite athletes who value expanding the game’s reach, competing at the highest level on an international stage, and carrying the responsibility of representing their country with pride.”
And this particular perspective aligns perfectly with the league’s goals. Right now, South Korea has witnessed a rise in the golf market. With An’s help, LIV Golf can expect a larger inflow of Korean fans, further stabilizing the league.
Amid skepticism, LIV Golf’s Korean strategy signals long-term intent, blending leadership stability and commercial confidence to counter prevailing doubts globally.
