Not Donald Trump, Granddaughter Kai Credits Someone Else in the Family for Her Golf Start

Many assume Donald Trump inspired his granddaughter Kai's golf career. However, the 18-year-old just set the record straight and revealed another family member was responsible for her start in the sport.
Many fans assumed the POTUS would have influenced his granddaughter, given his love for the sport. However, Kai Trump revealed the truth during her March 21 Q&A session.
"I started playing when I was 2, and my mom actually introduced me to golf," Trump said in her YouTube video.
Notably, Vanessa Trump, her mother, hasn't participated much in recent years until very recently. She only started taking regular lessons again after beginning a romantic relationship with the pro golfer Tiger Woods.

Kai Trump's mother has also been spotted actively supporting Woods, including the TGL Finals in March 2026, which Kai Trump also attended.
Meanwhile, the young golfer is focusing on her prospects at the University of Miami, where she will start this coming fall. She intends to specialize in marketing and simultaneously build her personal brand through her social media channels.
Kai Trump is creating a presence beyond the course
She is managing the pressure of a renowned last name and is charting her own course towards the LPGA.
Public comparisons are made about the journeys of young golfers, particularly Charlie Woods, who faces the same level of public scrutiny. Charlie and his counterparts are legacies of their families, but unlike the others, they are aiming to build their own personas.
Kai is putting her focus on recovery after surgery has kept her from playing fully. She described the process as an "emotional roller coaster," but is just happy to finally be putting again.
She attributed her sports recovery to her mother, who also introduced her daughter to wellness trends such as red light therapy. As she approaches her college debut, she still firmly believes she will be a professional golfer within five years.
