Brian Harman started his campaign at the Charles Schwab Challenge by making a strong impression on Thursday. The American carded a bogey-free 5-under 65 during the opening round of Thursday's action at Colonial Country Club.

Following the round, Harman discussed the conditions in Texas. The veteran elaborated on the challenging conditions and course configuration in the area during the post-round press conference on May 28.

"I like the course a lot. Course is in great shape. It's holding up pretty good for itself. It's not a bomb and gouge, you can really overpower it. The greens are soft, and the scores are still, there's nothing crazy out there. 5-under is still a really good round of golf."

The first round at Fort Worth offered a perfect platform for Harman. He managed to land a joint-seventh place after the first round among the top-ranked players in the competition.

Harman carded a -5, making 5 birdies on the first, third, twelfth, thirteenth, and fifteenth holes.

At his 14th appearance at Colonial, he highlighted how quickly everything can change. He emphasized the importance of scoring early before the conditions changed, as Texas's famous winds will soon transform the game.

"On a day like today you better get it. Because when that wind flips and it starts blowing a little bit, there's some of these golf holes that d*** near get impossible."

Such solid play was just what the doctor ordered for Harman after spending some time in a slump. This start gives him a chance to turn things around in his current campaign.

Brian Harman is Turning Texas Comfort Into a Spark for the 2026 Season

The start serves as a massive boost for Harman, who currently sits 73rd in the FedExCup standings. He admitted that his 2026 season has been quite disappointing thus far.

"I played some of my best golf at times, shot some really low scores, just have not had a complete golf tournament. I haven't had any really good finishes."

Statistically, the veteran's year has been a grind, featuring only a single top-15 finish across 13 appearances. That solitary bright spot came back in March with a T11 finish at THE PLAYERS Championship.

His sheet shows early missed cuts at the WM Phoenix Open and The American Express. Despite flashes of form during isolated rounds, consistency has completely eluded the American. Harman explained his mindset coming into the Colonial Country Club.

"I've been thinking about it a lot, been trying to improve the most I can, and try to finish a golf tournament off somewhere."

With an optimistic mindset, Harman looks forward to using his skills at the Texas venue, which he likes very much.

Do you think his mindset will allow him to make the cut going into the weekend at the 2026 Charles Schwab Challenge? Let us know in the comments.
