In Sunday's round at TPC Craig Ranch, Wyndham Clark showcased himself with a brilliant performance and clinched victory in McKinney, Texas. The American golfer gave an all-around performance to beat such an impressive group of players.
Wyndham Clark concluded his final round with a fantastic total of 11-under 60 to place himself in front of his competitors in winning the 2026 CJ Cup Byron Nelson event.
"At this golf course, you just gotta pedal to the metal the whole time, and I did that," Clark told Golf Channel's Amy Rogers after lifting the trophy.
The aggressive mindset proved necessary as Clark trailed the 54-hole leader by two strokes entering Sunday. He knew a conservative approach would not get the job done in Texas.
"I knew I had to shoot low, I thought, all right, if I shoot 7 under, there's a good chance I could win."
"I thought anything better than that was going to win," Clark added regarding his target. "I'm happy I shot more than that. I knew I had to make birdies."
The unrelenting pursuit of birdies did more than secure a victory in McKinney. It vaulted the champion straight into the history books with an unprecedented final-round masterpiece.
Riding the Momentum to Claim a Record-Breaking Triumph
Clark's final-round masterclass finally put an end to what became a couple of years-long slump on the PGA Tour. This would be his first victory since winning at the beginning of 2024.
The phenomenal play saw him hit 28 on the back nine after recording an eagle on the par-five 12th hole. He safely maintained his composure to finish with a historic 30-under-254 tournament total.
The brilliant weekend secured his position at the absolute top of the PGA Tour record books. His blistering 11-under-par performance on Sunday stands as the lowest final round by a winner since 2020. Clark talked to Amy Rogers about his year, saying
"I've been hitting it good, kind of all year. So, it was just kind of the timing of the two, but definitely the putting. Our game's good. We just got to figure out the driver."
Whether this aggressive approach can be successfully sustained across the demanding championship layouts ahead remains the definitive question hanging over the rest of the season.
