PGA Tour CEO Calls Out Reporter’s Sarcastic Remark on His Pros Before Giving His Real Answer

Independent contractors make up the PGA Tour, and they often have some feedback for Brian Rolapp. But how does the tour’s CEO perceive them?

When a media person wondered about it during the press conference at TPC Sawgrass, Rolapp sensed a “certain sarcasm” in the media person’s voice.

Satisfied with a rephrased question, the CEO claimed, “I'm a big believer in transparency and feedback. I'm also a big believer in making sure you know what you don't know. Humility and knowing what you don't know is a completely underrated leadership attribute in my view... That is a unique experience that only a handful of people on earth have. So I welcome their feedback."

He came to the golf world in June 2025. Prior to that, he was engaged with the NFL for about 22 years. According to him, the players are smart and progressive in their thinking, regardless of third-party opinion. And that’s one of the strengths of the PGA Tour. Additionally, golfers even hold equity in the tour. That’s certainly different from how things proceed in the NFL.

“That generates some challenges, but for the most part I think it generates an alignment of interests, and it generates an ownership mindset that I think is going to be really instrumental and helpful for us to make these changes,” Rolapp said. “So I've found it to be extremely helpful.”

But as the PGA Tour CEO moves ahead with a vision to improve the tour through six new themes (like the two-track season, changes to the field size, promotion and relegation, the West Coast open, moving to larger markets, and changes to the post-season ) many misconceptions have arisen in the public domain. So, where does Brian Rolapp stand in this scenario?

Addressing Misconceptions About the Tour's Future

“I'm sure there's a lot of misconceptions,” Rolapp admitted. “This is one reason why it's important we're doing this, is to try to be transparent as we can.”

He feels an obligation to provide clarity to anyone who seems to have misconceptions. And the tour members can call him any time to clear stuff up.

“I've had over 70 conversations with our members individually that have lasted anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes, and I really like them. I really like these conversations.”
