Phil Mickelson Shares “So Excited to Be Back” Message After Absence, Keeping It Simple

Phil Mickelson has broken his silence. After weeks away from the sport, the golf legend has resurfaced online.

The HyFlyers GC shared a 20-second video of a Lexus driving into focus, and from the car emerges the team’s captain, Phil Mickelson. They captioned the post, “Phil’s back… in Primo.”

And responding to his team’s shoutout, Mickelson wrote, “I’ve really missed seeing everyone and competing. I’m so excited to be back with the guys this week.”

His return aligns pretty well with the upcoming Masters Tournament. The three-time Masters champion will likely want to play at least once before the major. And right now, the only way for him to do that is to play at The Club at Steyn City, South Africa.

"Phil returns to the lineup this week in South Africa!" HyFlyers GC confirmed on March 16. However, it won't be easy for the 55-year-old.

Mickelson hasn't hit the ball since August 2025. On top of that, he hasn’t secured a finish better than T23 in his last six appearances, and he missed the cut for the Masters Tournament and the U.S. Open in 2025.

And while the HyFlyers GC captain confirmed his comeback, he avoided mentioning the reason behind his prolonged absence. But he did hint at one thing that led to his absence.

Why Did Phil Mickelson Miss the Early Events in 2026?

In February 2026, Mickelson released a statement on social media to announce his absence. He revealed that he would miss two events.

“I will not be able to participate in the first two LIV events as [my wife] Amy and I need to be present for a health matter. I can’t wait to compete again and look forward to rejoining my teammates as soon as possible,” wrote Phil Mickelson.

He appointed Ollie Schniederjans as his replacement to lead the HyFlyers GC through LIV Golf Riyadh, and missed LIV Golf Hong Kong. However, he couldn't return in time for Singapore either.

So it's no wonder that the veteran golfer is excited to return to the green after so long. And as per the video HyFlyers posted on X, he's already joined his team in practice.

So, do you think Phil Mickelson can rack up another win at Augusta National at 55?
