Phil Mickelson’s wife spotted without wedding ring amid misconduct allegations

Amy Mickelson, wife of golfer Phil Mickelson, was recently photographed without her wedding ring during a grocery run in San Diego, and the timing made the moment impossible to ignore.

It was her first public appearance since her husband faced a fresh wave of misconduct allegations and an ongoing absence from professional golf.

According to Edward Lewis of the New York Post, Amy stopped at a Trader Joe's earlier this week with her daughter, Amanda Brynn. Cameras caught her going in and coming out, and on both trips, her left hand was bare.

Phil Mickelson wasn't with them. Before they parted ways, mother and daughter shared a long hug.

Lewis noted in his report that Amy hasn't shown up in public much lately. One of the last times she did, at the 2021 Ryder Cup in Wisconsin, she was clearly wearing a large diamond ring on that same finger.

This time, it wasn't there. And neither Phil nor Amy has said anything about the marriage status or announced a separation.

The optics are hard to ignore given what Phil Mickelson has been dealing with.

He was forced to leave The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe this spring after an internal investigation into a claim that he made unwanted physical contact with a female employee there.

Then in late June, golf outlet Skratch published a report from writer Alan Shipnuck alleging a pattern of inappropriate conduct by Mickelson stretching back roughly a decade.

The most serious claim came from Ashley Perez, ex-wife of PGA Tour pro Pat Perez. Ashley says that during a 2015 tour event in New Jersey, Mickelson showed her an explicit photo of himself on his phone while her husband was briefly away.

Mickelson's spokesperson told People that some of what's circulating is false and that other claims simply rehash mistakes he's already owned up to.

Through it all, the same spokesperson has said Amy has stood by her husband and supported the family of three children with 'extraordinary grace' and 'unwavering love' for more than three decades.

Phil and Amy Mickelson got married on November 16, 1996.

Mickelson’s long break from golf

Mickelson has been away from professional golf for the last several months.

Ahead of LIV Golf's season opener in Saudi Arabia back in February, Mickelson said he and Amy needed to focus on a family health matter, and he ended up sitting out the tour's first several events of the year.

Mickelson made his lone 2026 start in mid-March at LIV Golf's stop in South Africa. He finished tied for 48th in his only competitive tournament all year.

Then he missed the Masters for just the second time since 1994, the PGA Championship, a tournament he'd missed only once since his debut in 1994, and the Open Championship for the first time since 2009, for the very same family health matter.

At the 2021 PGA Championship, Mickelson made history by becoming the oldest major champion in golf history at 50 years old.
