Presidents Cup Captain Balances Competing While Tracking Players' Form

Brandt Snedeker was attempting to secure a comeback win at the 2026 Valspar Championship. Snedeker was tied for the lead at the 10th tee, and then he lost his swing and putting touch.

The former pro admitted to being mentally drained from the split focus on his own game and the captaincy, disclosing that his role included watching other players to analyze how team candidates were performing in the tournaments.

"I want to make sure I play some good golf out here, but more importantly, I want to make sure I do a good job being Presidents Cup Captain," Snedeker said at the March 22 press conference.

"I'm watching, talking to the guys, and trying to see how they're playing," admitted the pro. While he explained he was happy with his process, it may have been too much to handle.

"Never felt nervous, never felt like I was uncomfortable with the situations I was in. Feel like my swing was a little bit off. This golf course can really make you pay. It's not like I hit any wild, awful shots, just constantly a slow drain," explained Brandt Snedeker.

Snedeker also confessed to checking leaderboards mid-round to track the form of potential team members like Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele. Thankfully, he'll have more chances to prove himself this season.

Navigating the Houston Challenge

Having obtained a sponsor's invitation to play in Houston, Snedeker is keeping an eye on the next tournament.

"Houston next week. Excited to get down there and play a golf course completely different (laughing), I have to hit it far," he said about the new course.

The Captain is confident about his driving and short game, but admits that their iron and wedge play might not be good enough scoring-wise to justify the recent downturn.

His playing privileges have enabled him to serve as an active captain, which is not something most captains can say. It means he can go out there and play against his players.

As Snedeker travels to Texas, he will have an opportunity to demonstrate his perseverance, as he manages the burden of an entire country's hopes while also experiencing the simple pleasure of pursuing another personal trophy.
