Rickie Fowler Missed Biggest Major, but Another Door Is Already Open

Rickie Fowler’s Masters dream is over for another year. After a missed cut at the Valero Texas Open, he failed to qualify for the 2026 The Masters Tournament. But while one opportunity is gone, another major is already within reach.

The field for the 2026 Masters Tournament will move forward without the veteran, as his efforts to stay among the top ranks continue to fall short.

“Awful frustrating to be missing our 5th Masters in 6 years. Time to look ahead,” the update shared, confirming his exclusion after failing to secure a last-minute invite.

The news comes from a recent social media post by RickieLegion, outlining Fowler’s current qualification status and his path for the rest of the season.

It was at the Valero Texas Open where he had his chance to qualify for the Masters. Unfortunately, a missed cut ended those hopes.

He shot rounds of 70 and 75, finishing 1-over and missing the cut by a single stroke.

However, his performance in the points standings has already secured his qualification for the season's second major.

Building Toward the U.S. Open

“Rickie will qualify for the PGA Championship via the top 70 in PGA Championship points. He sits 32nd and will not fall below 70 across the next four events.”

Qualifying for the PGA Championship is crucial for his season as he sits at No. 65 in the world rankings amid a dip in form.

This means Fowler will now shift his focus to the U.S. Open in June, where he needs to climb into the top 60 in the world rankings.

The update adds, “Need to be top 60 in the OWGR for the U.S. Open in June!”

Qualification challenges are not new for him. He missed two consecutive Masters in 2021 and 2022 due to a slump, before working his way back into form.

Missing the Masters is a blow to his image and popularity. However, qualifying for the upcoming PGA Championship allows him to compete with less pressure and aim to rebuild his ranking.

His performance in the coming events will determine his eligibility for future majors.
