Rory McIlroy Expects ‘No Birdiefest’ as Masters Challenge Intensifies

Rory McIlroy is bracing for a battle at Augusta National. He predicted this year's Masters would be a tough challenge due to harsh weather and course conditions.
The defending champion warned that the first round won't be an easy ride. "It's going to be a tough test this week. The wind is going to be up tomorrow. The greens are going to get firm," said Rory McIlroy.
"It's certainly not going to be a birdiefest. It's going to require patience. It's going to require more of a mental grind maybe." he said after Wednesday's practice at Augusta.
Then again, last year's Green Jacket winner isn't really surprised that things are going to be challenging at Augusta National. The Northern Irishman said, "This place is always that way."

However, the rough winds are certainly adding to the challenge. McIlroy explained that he aims to develop a game plan and maintain his freedom of swing, no matter how much pressure the tournament brings.
However, not yet bowing to the pressure just yet. On Sunday, the golfer enjoyed playing golf with his father. The biggest pre-tournament highlight for the 2025 champion came on Tuesday.
A career milestone for Rory McIlroy ahead of the 2026 Masters
For McIlroy, hosting his first-ever Champions Dinner was a highlight of Masters week. "I tried to treat it as if it was the only time I would host a dinner," said McIlroy.
"Everyone who is there knows that we are all envied in the sports world," he added. And as per his fellow golf stars, McIlroy's selection delivered.
Nick Faldo raved about the prawn tempura and the "lovely" chardonnay. Meanwhile, Bernhard Langer praised the carpaccio and told Golf.com, "I’ve never had a bad meal here."
2022 and 2024 Masters champion Scottie Scheffler loved the signature Scottish sticky toffee pudding.
“I really tried to embrace and enjoy every part of it... I’ll be able to turn my full attention to getting ready for the golf tournament,” Rory McIlroy said Tuesday.
