Rory McIlroy Makes It Clear He Wasn’t Seriously Challenged Down the Stretch at Masters

Rory McIlroy secured his second green jacket on Sunday. However, in his post-win interview, he explained that this year's Masters victory felt much easier than his last.
His opponents never truly challenged him down the stretch. "Thankfully, there was a few guys that made a run but nothing like what Justin did last year with that 66," said McIlroy.
"Some good play by me, and unfortunate the guys didn't really come at me this year either," Rory McIlroy said in his post-tournament interview in the Butler Cabin.
Despite the double bogey on the fourth hole, Rory remained focused. With his second consecutive win, McIlroy has become part of a very exclusive club who have won back-to-back green jackets.

He is now only the fourth player after Tiger Woods, Nick Faldo, and Jack Nicklaus. However, last year Justin Thomas played 6-under par 66 in the fourth round, resulting in a sudden-death playoff between him and McIlroy.
A Two-Shot Cushion Seals the Defense
The comfort zone on the 18th tee box provided relief as opposed to the stress that he endured last year.
According to McIlroy, "It's nice to have that two-shot cushion instead of the one like I had last year." Having this extra stroke ensured his lead remained intact as he went into the last hole.
He credited his flawless play after the early blunder for keeping the field at a distance. After falling back to 9-under, he surged to 13-under, and no one could catch him.
Rory McIlroy expressed that his mental strength was responsible for this triumph, adding, "I think all of the persistence I've shown in this golf event over the years has really started to pay off."
Looking forward to a historic three-peat attempt next April, the entire golfing world wonders who will manage to stop McIlroy's supremacy at Augusta.
