Rory McIlroy’s Masters Dinner Menu Critiqued by Former NBA Star Who Shares His Own

Charles Barkley is serving up a harsh review of Rory McIlroy's Masters Champions Dinner. The NBA legend took a jibe at the golfer's menu choices, especially on one particular dish.

"It's a little too foo foo for me," Barkley said on TNT Sports' The Steam Room podcast. "That's not a thing," he added, referring to the flatbread selection Rory McIlroy made on the April 14 episode.

The Hall of Famer was especially offended by the inclusion of dates with his favorite breakfast meat. "Bacon-wrapped dates? Come on, stop it. That's the only way you can f*** up bacon."

"I'll take the fried chicken they have at The Masters," Barkley announced. For starters, he picked a shrimp cocktail, a crab cocktail, and a Caesar salad without anchovies.

As the second course, he chose Dover Sole and what he jokingly called "some type of vegetarian b*******" to round out the spread for his guests.

Finally, for dessert, Barkley chose to stick to traditional options, combining Key lime pie, apple pie, and vanilla ice cream, over the sticky toffee pudding Rory McIlroy chose.

Rory McIlroy and Barkley's History of Course Side Banter

This latest culinary showdown is nothing but a new chapter in an ongoing relationship between these two personalities, typically marked by friendly teasing in public.

This was evident in a 2024 televised golf match, where Barkley asked the two-time Masters champion how much he indulged in food while playing.

Rory McIlroy quickly answered, joshingly telling Barkley, “Not as much as you, Chuck,” when asked about his snacking on the golf course.

However, contrary to Barkley's views, Rory McIlroy's Champions Dinner menu did get rave reviews from his fellow golfers.

“I should say that, like his golf game, Rory’s menu and wine selection were world-class,” said Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley.

Meanwhile, Scottie Schefeller even said that he was "kind of bummed," because he didn't get to try the bacon-wrapped dates and the other appetizers.
