Scottie Scheffler is now within touching distance of a mark that would have sounded absurd to golf fans just five years ago.

It all starts from a recent report from SB Nation's RJ Ochoa.

The current World No. 1 needs only four more consecutive top-25 finishes to pass Woods' modern-era record of 38 straight top-25s.

"Scottie has finished inside of the top 25 an incredible 35 straight times, which is the second-most in the past 40 years," Ochoa wrote of the streak, before noting who still sits above him.

Scheffler's runner-up finish at the Travelers Championship in late June extended his current run to 35 consecutive top-25s, the second-longest such streak of the last 40 years. Woods is the only man who has done it more.

But it's far from the only Woods mark that Scheffler is currently chasing.

Tiger Woods holds the all-time record with 281 consecutive weeks at OWGR No. 1 (2005–2010). As of late June 2026, Scheffler has reached 163 consecutive weeks. He needs to maintain the No. 1 ranking until approximately October 2028 to surpass Woods'.

Woods made 142 straight cuts between the 1998 Buick Invitational and the 2005 Byron Nelson. Scheffler, who hasn't missed a cut since the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship, carried a streak of 78 consecutive cuts made into this week's Scottish Open. He's only halfway there, but at his current pace, it's no longer an unthinkable feat.

Woods still owns the two lowest adjusted scoring averages in Tour history, with his best being 67.79 in 2000 and 68.05 in 2009. Scheffler's 68.13 in the 2025 season ranks as the third-best in Tour history.

And Woods still sits atop the PGA Tour's all-time money list at nearly $121 M, with Rory McIlroy second at nearly $116.1 M. Scheffler currently sits in third position with $114.57 M, which is not far away from Woods' record.

Scheffler says the Tiger Woods comparison is 'silly'

Scheffler had been the World No. 1 longer than anyone since Woods. He became the first player since Woods to post back-to-back seasons with five-plus wins, and arrived at the 2025 Tour Championship on a streak of 13 straight top-10 finishes.

So, the comparison has followed Scheffler for a while. But he does not buy into it.

"It's very silly to be compared to Tiger Woods," Scheffler said, according to Golf Channel. “I think Tiger is a guy that stands alone in the game of golf, and I think he always will. Tiger inspired a whole generation of golfers. You’ve grown up watching that guy do what he did week in, week out, it was pretty amazing to see.”

Scheffler has also described that playing with Woods in the final round of the 2020 Masters changed the way he looks at tournament golf. He explained that watching Woods stay locked in even when he had no chance to win left a deep mark on him.

That lesson helped shape the player Scheffler has become.
