Scottie Scheffler is closing in on the season's top prize money spot after his recent stellar performances on the PGA Tour. The World No. 1 seems to be very consistent, putting Cameron Young under strong pressure because he is the player with the most money earned for this season thus far.
Young maintains a slender margin with a huge $11,920,193 earned so far during the season, while Scheffler remains close behind with $11,641,893. He is less than $300,000 shy of the top spot after coming just short of winning last week's tournament.
According to sports business insider David Rumsey, "Scottie Scheffler is closing in on Cam Young on this season's prize money list—a win yesterday would have vaulted him to No. 1."
This sharp pursuit follows the conclusion of THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson on May 24, where Scheffler secured an impressive third-place finish and earned $710,700, thus moving him closer to the top.
As highlighted by the figures, there has been fierce competition in the PGA Tour, with Rumsey pointing out that "11 players have already made more than $5 million this year."
A Look Back at Scottie’s Highly Lucrative Season
The above financial frenzy bears similarities with the same trend that Scheffler recorded in 2024, in which a single dominant week at the Travelers Championship propelled his seasonal earnings past a record-breaking $27.6 million.
The 2026 season started well for the American player after his outstanding win at The American Express in January, with handsome earnings of $1,656,000.
The momentum accelerated during a lucrative spring stretch, highlighted by a runner-up finish at the Masters Tournament that rewarded him with a massive $2,430,000 payout.
In quick succession, he bagged another second-place finish at the RBC Heritage tournament, earning him another sum of $2,160,000 just a week later.
His impressive performance continued with yet another runner-up finish at the Cadillac Championship that fetched him an equal purse amounting to $2,160,000.
With upcoming signature tournaments on the horizon, it seems that Scheffler finds himself well-positioned to build on his momentum and continue his strong run.
Fans can expect ultimate closure on this lucrative battle as the tour heads toward the highly anticipated FedEx Cup playoffs later this summer.
