Scottie Scheffler’s historic run came to an end at the Genesis Scottish Open, but the World No. 1 did not sound like a player who thought his game had fallen apart.
“I didn’t really feel like I played that bad,” Scheffler said after the round.
Scheffler shot a two-over 72 on Friday at The Renaissance Club, finished at even par, and missed the cut by two shots. It snapped a streak of 78 straight made cuts on the PGA Tour, a run that began at the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship.

“This golf course can be just tough at times. There’s some humps and mounds out there, (but) I didn’t really feel like I played that bad.”
He also said the issue was less about one bad round and more about not giving himself enough good looks, especially with his approach play.
"I got off to a tough start, and then on the back nine I didn't feel like I was hitting it close enough to give myself enough opportunities," he said during the same interview per ASAP Sports. "I got off to a poor start and after that, I didn't really hit it close enough to give myself a bunch of looks. Yeah, that's how you shoot over par."
The numbers back him up. Through two rounds, Scheffler ranked 127th out of 156 players in strokes gained approach, losing nearly 1.8 shots to the field. It affected his play as well.
On Friday's round, he made the turn with a troubling 2-over par score. And after that, he couldn't find the birdies he needed to balance his 4 bogeys.
A Historic Streak, Even in Defeat
Even in defeat, 78 straight cuts is a number that belongs in rare company. It's the fifth-longest streak in PGA Tour history, behind only Tiger Woods (142, 1998–2005), Byron Nelson (113, 1941–48), Jack Nicklaus (105, 1970–76) and Hale Irwin (86, 1975–78).
It also made Scheffler the most consistent player on Tour by a huge margin, with Matt Fitzpatrick taking over the longest active streak at 28 after making the weekend in Scotland. Hideki Matsuyama is next at 27.
The missed cut also ended another streak that had quietly become just as impressive. Scheffler had finished inside the top 25 in 35 straight PGA Tour starts, a run that trailed only Tiger Woods’ modern-era mark of 38.
His last finish outside the top 25 came at the 2024 BMW Championship. Now, the early exit gives him two extra days before the Open Championship, where he will defend the Claret Jug he won last year at Royal Portrush.
“It’s a little different now,” Scheffler said. “Figure out how I get down to Birkdale and go from there.”
