Scottie Scheffler Responds to Tony Romo’s Comment on Beating Him Someday

Scottie Scheffler cleared the air on Tony Romo’s claim. Speaking at the RBC Heritage, the world number one responded to Romo’s April 15 Time magazine essay where he said he'd beat the World No. 1.
However, Scheffler didn't dismiss the claim outright. "He's beat Jordan before, so shout-out to Jordan for that. But he hasn't beaten me yet," said Scheffler.
"I'm not going to say that he can't because he's a good golfer. So, I'm definitely not going to go out and say that he can't," Scottie Scheffler said after carding 68 in the first round at the RBC Heritage.
"We also play a lot of golf together, and in golf, you never really know what's going to happen," expained the 2026 Masters runner-up.

Interstingly it was only after his first round of play at Harbour Town, Scheffler became aware of an article in Time magazine, written by former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.
"I think he’ll remain at the top for years to come because of the pure joy he has grabbing a golf club and hitting a golf ball. Although I’m going to beat him one day. I have every faith," the NFL player
However, there's a reason why the 29-year-old has such respect for Tony Romo despite being among the best in the sport.
Scottie Scheffler on learing to navigate the spotlight
Their connection goes far beyond being good friends who play golf with each other in their hometown of Dallas.
Scottie Scheffler values Romo's advise on being a professional player and celebrity. "He was the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, so he has a better understanding than I do of what it's like to be in the spotlight," he explained.
He often seeks Romo's advice on managing sponsorship days, media interactions, and the small details of public life, such as handling photos at dinner.
"I've just learned a lot from him about how to navigate being a professional athlete while also trying to be a family man, as well," he said about the 45-year-old fromer NFL quaterback.
Romo continues honing his talents in an attempt to beat the best in the world, leaving everyone wondering when he will finally achieve the victory he has long been dreaming of.
