Scottie Scheffler Still Has Ground to Make Up to Match Tiger Woods in a Major PGA Tour Honor

Scottie Scheffler made history. He won his fourth consecutive PGA Tour Player of Year award on December 15th.

However, he's still off Tiger Woods' record of winning the award 11 times. Scheffler did equal Woods' record of winning four of these awards back-to-back, and that consistency is being recognized.

As PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp said, "Scottie's consistent level of success has been nothing short of spectacular as he continues to chase history on the PGA Tour, and we're excited to see what he will deliver in 2026."

It’s worth noting that the Player of the Year is selected through a member vote. And only the PGA Tour members who played in at least 15 events this season were eligible to cast their votes. The voting ended on 12 December, bringing Scottie Scheffler the Jack Nicklaus Award.

"That's really cool. I did not expect that. When you're able to receive the vote of your peers, I think that's really special. That means a lot to me."

And he had some praise from Tiger Woods as well

Although Woods did not make a statement after Scheffler's award win, he had some positives when he spoke at the 2025 Hero World Challenge.

“I mean, he won six times and they’re not small events. He’s beating the best fields. So that’s something that I certainly can appreciate and I think that I hope everyone else appreciates it as well because you just don’t see this happen very often.”

Woods continued, “I truly love watching him hit irons, the shaped shots that he hits, the trajectory, the window changes that he has, the distance control, the miss in the proper spot, the proper spin in certain pin locations. These are all subtle things that mean a lot over the course of 72 holes.”

Can Scheffler equal Woods' record? Let us know in the comments!
