Sergio Garcia has matched a rare global feat held by his idol, Seve Ballesteros. The Spanish star has won championships in 18 different countries. When asked about the achievement, his humble reflection paid tribute to the golfing legend.

That is a recognition that he shares with the great Seve Ballesteros, who won titles in 5 continents. And when asked about it at LIV Golf Singapore, he said:

Garcia said, "Yeah, well, I mean, it obviously depends who you ask. But from my perspective, obviously golf is a global game, and that's what we want to do. We want to promote the game, our beautiful game, the game that we love everywhere in the world."

During his prime, Seve Ballesteros traveled globally to promote the game, particularly in his home country of Spain. And in a similar fashion, Sergio Garcia is channeling that same energy with LIV Golf across 10 countries.

More importantly, for the Fireballs GC captain, doing what his idol once did was incredibly important. Garcia once described Ballesteros as a "second dad", who took care of him at Augusta and the British Open. And when Garcia won the Masters on Ballesteros' birthday, he paid a tribute to the golf legend.

And now, he's doing the same by promoting the game globally. That's why Garcia added, "I've been very fortunate to do well, like you said, pretty much all over the world. That's something that makes me very proud. It shows that I've tried to display or to show my game and my country, and now obviously our team, the Fireballs, everywhere we go and tried to perform to the best of our ability everywhere we go."

Finding the Competitive Fire in the Next Generation

While proud of his global achievements, Garcia remains dedicated to guiding his junior teammates on Fireballs GC. He notices a similar flame in David Puig, Josele Ballester, and Luis Masaveu.

"I do obviously see that energy they have, that will to play hard and practice hard and that hunger of achieving things," Garcia said. Their enthusiasm reminds him of his own start in professional sports.

While the team gets ready to defend its title at Sentosa Golf Club, Garcia anticipates the team will gain momentum, which he feels is important. He stresses the need for the team to stay hungry for the long season ahead.
