Shane Lowry Criticizes PGA Championship Setup, Says Aronimink Has Been “Pretty Poorly” Prepared

via Usta

Shane Lowry criticized the PGA Championship course setup at Aronimink Golf Club. After rounds of 68, 76, and 70, former Open champion claimed tournament officials had "poorly" prepared the venue for the field.

The demanding conditions at Aronimink Golf Club have provoked criticism from multiple competitors this week.

When questioned about the mounting criticism, Lowry directly voiced his displeasure. He stated, "I think it's a great golf course, but I think it has been setup pretty poorly."

His comments came after several players struggled with the difficult greens and pin placements in the early rounds, with Lowry insisting the extreme conditions were not an isolated grievance among the field.

"I was happy to hear Rory and Scottie's comments yesterday because it wasn't just me feeling it out there," Lowry said.

Both Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler had questioned the course conditions earlier in the tournament.

"When you see the best players in the world struggling from 10-feet, you know that there is something wrong somewhere," he added.

Players had missed putts throughout the week as the slick green continued to frustrate the field.

Lowry also commented on the third day being "a little bit easier," and that "that's kinda of maybe a reaction to the first two days, which is not right either."

Saturday’s round yielded lower scores than the opening two days.

Navigating Major Championship Adversity

Lowry was more measured with his game play after struggling to complete a round of 76 on day 2, recording a steady 70 on day 3, and is currently standing at T69 in the tournament.

The third-round score included five bogeys, which shows the continued difficulty that the Aronimink golf course presents even with improved weather conditions.

This week's struggle aligns with a difficult season for Lowry's standard, who has secured just two top-10 finishes in 10 starts and three missed cuts.

Lowry's track record in the tournament is also tough, having missed the cut at last year's PGA Championship event.

This slump contrasts with his tournament performance two years ago, when he finished tied for sixth at the 2024 PGA Championship.

Organizers will now be under pressure regarding their course setups in future events due to the reaction and feedback from the golfers.
