Russell Henley clinched his sixth PGA Tour victory through an outstanding performance at the Charles Schwab Challenge. After his victory, his rare emotional display drew immense attention from various golf enthusiasts.
It took all of Henley's psychological strength to come through the challenging final round at Colonial Country Club on the verge of the Sunday, May 31 showdown held in Fort Worth, Texas. At the 15th hole, Henley was still three strokes behind the leader. But he revealed what pushed him towards the win.
"The longer you play this game, the more you want more, you want more success and I feel like I've just worked harder and harder and I feel like I've been a little off just mentally this year, really," Henley shared during the post-game interview. "Just feel like I just fought really hard through the end, so it just felt really good to see an awesome result."

The American fought through intense self-doubt at Fort Worth, overcoming a rocky 1-over par front nine after carding three consecutive bogeys on holes 3, 4, and 5 before launching a spectacular late charge.
Henley, together with his caddie Andrew Sanders, made a successful adjustment during the middle of the round, allowing Henley to finish the round strong, carding three consecutive birdies to end the regulation with 67, courtesy of his 17-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole.
He forced the sudden-death playoff against Eric Cole before clinching the title at the first extra hole by converting a critical birdie putt inside five feet for the $1,782,000 winner's purse.
"That was as nervous as I've been over a putt in my whole life," Henley admitted as he explained that the extreme season mentally made the victory all the more satisfying.
With this, Henley climbed the ladder.
Russell Henley's Victory Shook Up the FedExCup Standings
Henley showed great resilience in the Texas competition to earn 500 important FedExCup points and make considerable progress from the 26th to 11th position in the FedExCup standings amid a hectic summer schedule.
The tournament marked Henley's first structural win on Tour since the 2025 Arnold Palmer Invitational after experiencing a one-year winless spell that required him to continue making some tough technical changes.
In turn, second-place holder Eric Cole tasted bitter defeat on his part during the final round, as he had entered Sunday with a comfortable four-shot lead but shot a final-round 70, closing the game 12-under 268.
Cole missed the 13-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole, which means that the 37-year-old American continues searching for his first PGA Tour win, although he has earned the sizeable check of $1,079,100.
Ben Griffin, the defending champion, also showed a remarkable resurgence in the tournament as he matched the lowest score of the day with his 5-under 65 and, along with Alex Smalley and Mac Meissner, took third place with their scorecard reading 11-under 269.
The victory in Fort Worth has definitely changed the dynamics of the PGA Tour, making other competitors question whether Henley's triumph will trigger an unstoppable championship streak before the majors.
