Tiger Woods Admits PGA of America Asked the Big Question, “Trying to Figure It Out”

Despite being unable to play in TGL season 2, Tiger Woods acted as a commendable captain for the Jupiter Links. But where does he stand in the race to captaincy at the 2027 Ryder Cup?
Talking to the media at the Genesis Invitational pre-tournament presser, the 15-time major champion admitted, “They have asked me for my input on it, and I haven't made my decision yet.”
“I'm trying to figure out what we're trying to do with our tour. That's been driving me hours upon hours every day, and trying to figure out if I can actually do our team, our Team USA, and our players and everyone that's going to be involved in the Ryder Cup, if I can do it justice with my time.”

Right now, Woods is connected to the PGA Tour Policy Board and the PGA Tour Enterprises Board. And being in the boardroom “doesn’t even compare” to spending hours swinging on the golf course. He claimed that it’s been “challenging” to be on the boards.
“Serving on two boards and what I'm doing for the PGA TOUR, I'm trying to figure out if I can actually do this and serve the people that are involved and serve them at an honorable level.”
The 50-year-old is the PGA of America’s first choice as the upcoming Ryder Cup captain. But given his age and recent troubles with persistent injuries, things seem a bit uncertain.
Can Tiger Woods’ Body Keep Up With a Potential Captaincy
“My body has been through a lot,” Woods said. “It’s just one of those things where it’s each and every day, I keep trying, I keep progressing, I keep working on it, trying to get stronger, trying to get more endurance in this body, and trying to get it at a level at which I can play at the highest level again.”
Tiger Woods underwent a microdecompression and posterior lumbar interbody fusion procedure last October. It was his seventh back surgery.
A PLIF takes substantially longer than for decompression alone because the fusion has to consolidate biologically, and the hardware has to stabilize.
Nevertheless, Woods will likely be back on the course by 2027. Hence, assuming the role of the USA’s captain shouldn’t pose a problem for the 50-year-old.
