“Truly Amazing”: Scottie Scheffler’s Rise Earns Rare Praise From Tiger Woods

At the Hero World Challenge press conference on December 2, Tiger Woods offered a few words for world #1 Scottie Scheffler. The 29-year-old has been garnering quite some attention with three back-to-back ESPY awards and his performance, of course. And to add to that, now, Woods has deemed him worthy of high praise.

Talking about Scheffler, Woods claimed that he was one of the nicest people in the golf community. And the work he’s doing on the golf course is simply “incredible”. We’ve all seen how consistent Scheffler has been with his profession. But it’s his strategies that steal the show. Even Woods wasn’t oblivious to that.

“You can see him analyze it from the green back where the flag is, where he wants to miss a tee shot, what club to hit, where the wind is, what side of the tee box he’s to start off on,” Woods stated. “It’s truly amazing at how thoughtful he is and strategic he is throughout the entire round.”

Additionally, Tiger Woods liked the fact that Scheffler doesn’t have lapses in his rounds. He stays on the course for all 18 holes. And it certainly isn’t easy to stay put for every shot played in the game. But when it came to dominating the major events, Scheffler absolutely impressed Woods.

“I mean, he won six times and they’re not small events. He’s beating the best fields. So that’s something that I certainly can appreciate and I think that I hope everyone else appreciates it as well because you just don’t see this happen very often.”

Scheffler’s rise has been undeniably meteoric. He has held the #1 spot in the Official World Golf Ranking for more than two years. He has a total of 24 professional wins, including four wins in major tournaments. Furthermore, he has an adjusted scoring average of more than 68 since 2023, and for that, he claimed the Byron Nelson Award for three consecutive years – 2023, 2024, and 2025.

But what does Woods like in Scheffler’s game?

Woods continued, “I truly love watching him hit irons, the shaped shots that he hits, the trajectory, the window changes that he has, the distance control, the miss in the proper spot, the proper spin in certain pin locations. These are all subtle things that mean a lot over the course of 72 holes.”

That’s impressive to Woods because if one doesn’t have control over the ball’s trajectory, one simply can’t have control over the distance.

“To see him move it up and down in different windows, use wind, fight wind, and control spin is fun to watch,” admitted the 82-time PGA Tour winner.
