Tyrrell Hatton Reveals Why Deleting Social Media Helped Him Ignore LIV Golf Distractions

Tyrrell Hatton has discovered a way in which he can maintain focus amidst ongoing uncertainty within professional golf. The Englishman talked about the personal practices that enable him to keep a level head.

“I deleted X off my phone two and a half years ago, and I deleted Instagram almost two years ago off my phone,” said Hatton in his latest presser on May 7. “So, I've replaced that with looking at Daily Mail and Sky Sports News. It's nice to not have social media, and the negativity that kind of comes with that.”

During the LIV Golf Virginia event, Hatton commented on the constant speculation about the future of the league as well as player allegiances. To ensure that he is not affected by such issues, Hatton minimizes the amount of information he receives.

"My job is to play golf, and that's all I do," said Hatton about his priorities while having a mindset that allows him to insulate himself from the outside world.

Hatton noted that he now opts for traditional news outlets to stay informed without the negative commentary.

By keeping his focus solely on golf, Hatton produced one of the best rounds at The Masters Tournament. The Englishman shot a 6-under 66, highlighted by seven birdies and all 18 greens hit in regulation, putting him tied for fourth in his 10th Masters appearance.

He became the third player since 1997 to accomplish the extraordinary feat at the Masters. Yet, the present situation is tumultuous for Hatton.

Maintaining Focus Amidst PIF Funding Withdrawal

Hatton's decision not to participate in social media activity is fundamental, given the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund's (PIF) confirmation that its financial sponsorship of the LIV Golf circuit will end after 2026.

Hatton signed with LIV Golf alongside high-profile names such as Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm during the league’s rapid rise. However, declining financial support from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund has left some players facing uncertainty.

So, by steering clear of negativity online, he is able to ensure that preparing for the competition is his top priority.

"For me personally, what I do doesn't affect anything off the golf course," Hatton said while commenting on his lack of participation in the league's decision to switch its finances.

Hatton is battling for the top spot at LIV Golf Virginia at Trump National Golf Club, Washington D.C., against a field packed with elite talent.
