Viktor Hovland Turns Masters Tradition Into a Joke Only He Could Make

Viktor Hovland has a unique talent for making light of golf's most revered traditions, treating them as casual Sunday get-togethers with friends. The Norwegian star recently made fun of the famous crystal tradition of the Masters.
In a media interaction at Augusta National, the conversation centered on the unique gifts given for outstanding performances. In particular, one journalist noted the crystal glasses gifted to each player for making an eagle on the field.
"I would just have to make more eagles," Hovland said jokingly after being asked if he had any concerns about breaking these precious glasses.
Everything started with a question from a journalist asking if he was aware of the number of eagles that he made at the field. "No idea. I've had a few," Hovland responded. "Not super many, but I've had a few."
However, his answer about using the crystal glasses at home made the situation even more comical. "Just keep them in my house, just to flex on my buddies whenever they come over," he answered when asked where he keeps them.
The joke reached its peak when the journalist asked him what he used them for in his home. "I have. It doesn't happen very often, but I have," Hovland confirmed, saying that they are used as serving glasses.
Pursuing the Ultimate Masters Trophy
Although Viktor Hovland adds humor with witty remarks about kitchenware, his resume proves he is an ever-present competitor for the coveted Green Jacket, the most esteemed award in the world of golf, which is unattainable by taste.
In the upcoming Masters, which Hovland will participate in for the seventh time in 2026, he received the Low Amateur title in his first-ever appearance in 2019.
When it comes to performance, Hovland's highest finish at Augusta National was joint seventh in 2023 at 6-under par. In 2025, in his last Masters appearance, he finished joint 21st after scoring 2-under.
This humorous approach to trophies contradicts the general perception surrounding Augusta. Although many contestants regard the eagle crystals as holy treasures, Hovland views them as merely a motivator for the next round.
Viktor Hovland's composure in the face of challenges distinguishes him from other professionals. Whether he is trying hard to win or joking about smashing glass, he remains one of the most genuine personalities in professional golf.
As the tournament progresses, spectators will track the leaderboard to see if Hovland can increase his collection of eagles. With each eagle, Hovland earns bragging rights for a display in his native Norway.
