Grant Horvat issued a public apology to Michael Block on Sunday after a newly released Your Golf Tour (YGT) YouTube video sparked widespread backlash for showing Block in a negative light.
"After reflecting on the Michael Block situation at the end of part 2, myself and the team at YGT want to apologize. Our intention was to show the raw emotion of what the YGT means and how badly the participants want to perform well," Horvat wrote on X.
Horvat emphasized that the video showed Block having "great leadership" and that this brought a "ton of team positivity."
"Ultimately, we made a mistake by leaving the last segment in the video. For that, we apologize to Michael Block and anyone who did not find the clip tasteful or necessary. We do not want to garnish attention through drama and controversy, but through high-quality golf. We are thankful for everyone’s commitment and participation on the YGT and they deserve to be portrayed in a more positive light," Horvat added.
Block joined Team Grant as its wild-card pick for Round 2 of the season-opening YGT event at Pursell Farms.
Entering the round, Team Grant sat at 13-under, not far behind co-leaders Team Brad and Team Wesley. Block delivered early, and Team Grant climbed to 15-under, just a shot off the lead. Throughout most of the round, Block kept the group calm, stayed upbeat, and helped the team stay in the fight.
Then at the par-5 ninth, Team Grant needed a putt to survive. Block's effort slid left and missed, eliminating them from the final round.
During the closing seconds of the episode, the video featured a clip of an emotional Block shouting expletives out of frustration after a 9-hole elimination from the tournament.
He repeatedly said, "I just came here to play nine holes," out of disappointment. Fans heavily criticized the decision to leave the clip in the video.
Some fans, though, added there's nothing to apologize for.
"What part are we talking about @GrantHorvatGolf? I watched the entire episode and never saw anything bad from Block?" said one fan.
Another fan added: "I actually appreciated the rawness. If you've ever competed at a high level, you know this isn't disrespectful. It's the unfiltered emotion of someone who cares."
So far, Michael Block has not said a single word about the video or the apology.
The YGT dust-up isn't the only thing that's had Michael Block in the headlines lately
Days after turning 50, he made his PGA Tour Champions debut on a sponsor's exemption at the DICK'S Open at En-Joie Golf Club in Endicott in late June.
After shooting 66 and 70 in his first two rounds, he was right in the mix before the final round. During Sunday's final round, he made five birdies on the front nine.
Later in the round, he carded three straight birdies on holes 14, 15, and 16 to move within one shot of the lead. He didn't know what was going to happen on the final hole.
His wedge shot hit a tree. It dropped straight down and plugged in a bunker and eventually ended up as a triple bogey on the par-4 18th hole.
"I didn't hit a bad shot on 18. That was the most frustrating part about it," Block said after the round, per Golfweek. "I only made a couple bogeys the entire week, and for me to triple-bogey the last hole when I hit it down the middle of the fairway.
Block finished T-9 at 13‑under.
