Jacob Bridgeman just achieved the greatest accomplishment of his career at the 2026 Genesis Invitational. While the win was transformational, his gaze remained fixed on the tournament's esteemed host, Tiger Woods. 

Winning at Riviera was the most surreal way for Bridgeman to complete a full-circle moment. Bridgeman admitted that the thought of shaking hands with Woods made the final few holes he had left way more nerve-wracking, as Woods was the first player in his childhood golfing memory.

Jacob did not hold back in referring to Woods's legendary status in golf. He quoted, "He is the best player of all time by far. I think some of the things that he has done on the golf course are incredible, will never be beaten".

This was Bridgeman's first time achieving a victory on the PGA Tour, achieving a score of 18 under par. Bridgeman started the final day of the tournament with a huge six-shot lead over his competitors. By the time he reached the 18th hole, that shot lead was narrowed to a single stroke.

The level of pressure grew as he approached his final three-foot putt. Bridgeman claimed that to be in 'robot mode' and for all the shots leading up to that moment, it was true. The moment he approached the greens, he felt lost in terms of touch.

The most challenging part of the round for the player was countering the poa annua surfaces. For the final two holes, he consulted with his caddy, GW Cable, and Rory McIlroy to manage the tricky shadows and slopes.

Mastering the Approach and Reflecting on Tiger’s Legacy

This is not the first time we have witnessed Bridgeman's appreciation for Woods. As he stated before the event, he usually spends time during the tournaments looking at some of Tiger's golf career highlights.

He remains "in awe" of the host, having learned to play during Tiger's career at its zenith.

During the event, Bridgeman's golf game reached a whole new level, thanks to a recent tuning of his iron play. He has been coaching with Scott since 2022 on eliminating excessive shaft lean to siding, using his coaching heartedly.

This was career-defining, as he was the best in the entire field in Strokes Gained: Approach. With the pressure of the final round during some complex and even challenging 'half-club' distances, he was able to hit the target.

For Bridgeman, this milestone victory is a significant confidence boost. He intends to visit Augusta National in the near future as he prepares for his first trip to the Masters.
