Matt Fitzpatrick believes winning on the PGA Tour requires more than just physical skill. The former U.S. Open champion revealed that mental preparation for Sunday pressure must begin before the tournament.
"Winning is really hard. There's no doubt about it. Winning is hard," said Fitzpatrick during his press conference at TPC Louisiana ahead of the Zurich Classic.
"Any tournament you play, a win is always on your mind. You definitely have to think about being in that position, whether it's on a Thursday or whether it's on a Sunday," Matt Fitzpatrick added on Wednesday.
"All you can do is play as well as you can in that moment and hit the shots that you think are the right shots to hit to make the lowest score and win the tournament," he said about closing things out.

The 31-year-old showed that championship-winning resilience at the RBC Heritage. Just a week after finishing T18 at the Masters, Fitzpatrick made a stunning comeback.
In the playoff at Harbour Town, the golfer beat Rory McIlroy, who came off a historic win at the Masters, becoming only the fourth player to defend his Masters title.
However, Matt Fitzpatrick wasn't happy with the first round in Avondale
Fitzpatrick entered the Zurich Classic with a personal motivation. He's playing with his brother Alex, and how well he plays can decide Alex Fitzpatrick's PGA Tour future.
If the Fitzpatrick brothers can win the Zurich Classic, the 2026 RBC Heritage winner's brother will gain a two-year PGA Tour exemption.
However, the duo didn't get off to the start they wanted, landing in T30 after the first round.
"I felt like it was a little slow to start with... Would have been nice to take an advantage on 18 and make a birdie... Really disappointing way to end with two balls in perfect position. It’s not good enough, really," Matt Fitzpatrick told the media.
However, the brothers have made it to the top of the leaderboard ahead of Sunday.
