Schauffele further explained that it is rare to feel like someone works way harder than you. He noted that Aaron is always in the gym and range.
Recalling a memory from the Scottish Open three years ago, Schauffele described how he and his caddie, Austin, went out to putt late into the evening. Schauffele highlighted Rai's work ethic.
"Aaron is finishing up his little putting session at 9:00 p.m. and going to the gym at 9:45."
"I think that's what it's about to be a major champion. You put the work in when nobody's looking," he added.
Schauffele's confidence in Rai's ability was not misguided, as the British golfer went on to win the tournament at 9-under overall.
Analyzing the Final Leaderboard Numbers
Schauffele's and Rai's contrasting performances on Sunday ultimately decided their spots on the leaderboard. Rai managed to finish the game with a very good 5-under par on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Xander Schauffele carded a 1-under par 69 on Sunday. The front nine had him shoot even par before a fortunate birdie on the last hole. The back nine saw Scheuffle shoot two bogeys on holes 11 and 13, which he nullified with two birdies on holes 16 and 18.
The American star finished the tournament tied for seventh place with an overall score of 4-under par.
Rai emerged victorious and claimed the Wanamaker Trophy. It was a significant achievement for him as it was the first time an English golfer had won the PGA Championship since 1919.
Schauffele will look to regain his winning momentum at the upcoming U.S. Open. Golf fans will watch closely to see if his putter stays hot.
